The Crypto Audit Manager is responsible for the management of the processes for all assurance related deliverables, including audited financial statements for private and public crypto companies, stablecoin and other asset-backed token attestations, and Proof of Reserve agreed upon procedures reports, for multiple clients and engagements in the Digital Assets and Cryptocurrency industry. The Manager’s responsibilities extend beyond project management to more engagement in practice management activities, developing individual expertise, developing audit methodologies in an ambiguous regulatory environment, enhancing overall client service and developing department or niche professional staff.  He/she will contribute to the development of cutting edge, blockchain-based assurance products and technology such as TrustExplorer.  He/she will also serve as a digital asset subject matter expert and liaison across service lines.

He/she will focus solely on clients within the cryptocurrency and digital assets industry. Example client profiles include cryptocurrency exchanges, custodians, stablecoins, asset-backed tokens, miners, stakers, token issuers, and investment funds.


Essential Functions

  • Manage the engagement and work-flow of all client deliverables for multiple crypto clients and engagements, including audited, reviewed and compiled financial statements, stablecoin attestations, Proof of Reserve agreed-upon procedures reports, and internal control and IT letters.
  • Collaborate with Digital Assets practice to develop and refine Armanino’s internal technical tools and methodologies to support understanding, review and testing of digital asset ownership, wallet structures and transaction activity
  • Identify and resolve accounting and audit technical issues impacting the engagement
  • Lead the engagement planning process in terms of timing, risk assessment, reliance on internal controls, audit or other engagement approach
  • Determine and approve staffing and other resource needs, and related engagement work schedules
  • Review engagement work papers and related deliverables to ensure that firm and professional standards are met
  • Delegate assignments to supervisors considering their skills, development needs, schedule and engagement economics
  • Participate in the peer review process
  • Continually build on technical expertise in cryptocurrency/digital assets, accounting, financial reporting and audit methods by attending continuing professional education courses or utilizing other training resources
  • Conduct or review research of complex or new accounting and financial reporting issues and prepare memorandums to support solutions
  • Assist in developing fee quotes, preparation of client billings, and collection of outstanding accounts
  • Utilize assurance department methodologies, processes and tools to enhance assurance engagement efficiencies and overall client profitability
  • Oversee the preparation of presentations for audit exit and audit committee meetings
  • Involvement in the early stages of practice development activities including developing a professional network or referral sources, assisting in proposals, or writing articles for publication and assisting partners in their practice development activities
  • Serve as an instructor in firm and department training programs and meetings
  • Develop less experienced professionals by providing formal performance feedback, career counseling and mentoring to those below manager


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field
  • CPA license required
  • Certified Bitcoin Professional (CBP) preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a public accounting firm
  • Professional experience with digital assets preferred
  • Strong personal interest in digital assets and cryptocurrencies
  • Understanding of industry terms and nomenclature (miners, keys, DeFi, etc)
  • Assurance leadership, guidance or supervisory experience is required
  • Advanced understanding of accounting (GAAP) and assurance (GAAS) procedures and standards
